Maybe you have heard about mindfulness and about meditation and are curious to try it. You might be skeptical. That’s OK, too. Maybe you want to be more at ease with your thoughts and emotions—with yourself.  Or perhaps, you want to be calmer under pressure and more receptive to others even when it is hard. Maybe you want to change habits or patterns of thinking that aren’t serving you well or cause you worry or anxiety. Perhaps, you are tired of feeling your body tight and all tied up in knots and are wondering how to just let go.  Or, maybe you’ve tried meditating on your own or with an app and it hasn’t worked out for you. There are thousands of reasons why you may have landed here. I am happy you did. Welcome. It is all about practice. A Mindful Life begins with practice, continues with practice, and ends with practice. Practice puts our intentions into action. Practice is training for the mind. Practice gives us peace of mind. Good and bad things still and always will happen, but our perspective changes. We are OK, no matter what is happening right now. When we train our minds we open ourselves to our possibilities. Rather than react, we respond. Rather than grasp at or push away thoughts, emotions and experiences, we allow them to be as they are without getting all tied up in them or running away from them. The thought or emotion is there, we experience it, but we experience it with spaciousness and non-reactivity. In this way we develop the quality of equanimity—seeing the big picture with evenness and without judgment. This allows us to open to the unknown—with curiosity, wisdom, and heart.       <image:caption>I’ve been practicing mindfulness in my life and have had a meditation practice for a very, very long time. The fruits of my practice—wisdom, equanimity, gratitude, and kindness— led me to wanting to share with and teach others. In January 2021 I received my Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification through Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach’s two year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program (MMTCP).  As a certified Mindfulness teacher, my intention is to share not only what I have learned but also what I have lived and to provide practical ways to bring Mindfulness into your life. I am grateful to Jack and Tara for their guidance, knowledge, and kindness. My gratitude ripples outward to all my other teachers as well, among them Joseph Goldstein, Thich Nhat Hanh, Adyashanti, Rick Hanson, Daniel Siegel, Kristin Neff, Mark Epstein, Judson Brewer, Lama Tsomo, Tsultrim Allione, Kelly McGonigal, my grandmother and so many more.       <image:title>Classes &amp; Series - Mindfulness Meditation Class</image:title>
      <image:caption>Mindfulness Meditation class meets throughout the year. In these classes, we practice meditation together, listen to little talks, share experiences and insights, and ask questions. Each meditation is guided and each has a focus—concentration on the breath, or open awareness of experience as it arises, is present, and passes away, or awareness of feeling tone, or awareness of loving kindness, among others. The little talks—about 15 minutes long— address themes such as being kind even when we don’t feel like it, stepping back to see the big picture before we jump to conclusions or get snagged in our beliefs, or paying attention even when our mind wants to do something else. We learn how to change our minds from being caught up in busyness, emotion, and belief to being open, calm and clear in each moment. We practice meditation not for its own sake. We practice so that we can be happier in our lives even when things go wrong as they surely will. We learn by sharing our meditation experience, asking questions, and learning away doubts. Each class series has a theme and when you register, you sign up for the entire series. We meet online on Zoom for one hour, once a week until the series ends.       <image:title>Classes &amp; Series - Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation Class</image:title>
      <image:caption>Meditation is the essential practice that develops mindfulness. Mindfulness is key to living happily in our lives. We can’t think or feel our way to mindfulness, we have to practice it through meditation. The more we practice, the more mindful we are. The more mindful we are, the happier we are. This class series is for everyone who is a beginner or who has stepped away from meditation for a time and would like a refresher. It’s like learning anything—how to play the piano, or write, or run a marathon— we have to train in order to do it. Practice is everything. In this class we practice settling into the body, focusing on the breath, and being with what is arising without grasping or pushing it away. We learn how to pay attention. We practice being kind to ourselves, to difficult people, and to people we just don’t like so that ill will, anger, and dislike cannot crowd out our happiness. We invite curiosity and openness to our journey. We are enthusiastic and take it a step at a time. This class meets virtually on Zoom for one hour, once a week, for five weeks and begins periodically.
